Frequently asked questions

Can’t find your answer? Get in touch.

Is the pick really random?

Yes. DartPick chooses the winner with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, so every entry has exactly the same chance. The winner is decided before the dart flies — where a note sits on the board, how big it is, or whether another note covers it makes no difference. The dart then flies to the winning note.

Where are my names and pictures stored?

Only on your device, in your browser’s storage. They aren’t sent to us or anyone else, and there’s no account to sign in to. See the privacy policy for the details.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After you’ve opened DartPick once, it keeps working without an internet connection. Installing it to your home screen makes it feel like any other app — see How to use.

How many entries can I add?

Up to 50 on a board, counting names and pictures together. As the board fills up the notes get smaller so they all fit without overlapping.

Why can’t I move notes while the dart is flying?

The board locks during a throw, while the result is showing, and while pictures are being added, so nothing can change the outcome halfway through.

How do I tidy the board after moving notes?

Press Shuffle. It scatters every note — including ones you’ve moved — back into an automatic layout.

Can I use it on an iPhone?

Yes. Open DartPick in Safari; you can add it to your Home Screen from the Share menu.

Is there an Android app?

One is in the works for Google Play. Until then, Chrome on Android can install the website as an app.

Does DartPick cost anything?

No, it’s free. A small ad helps cover its running costs. Ads never appear over the board or next to the Throw button, and they’re plain ads — not based on what you do — unless you say otherwise. Use Privacy choices at the bottom of any page to change your answer at any time.

Who is DartPick for?

Anyone aged 13 or over. It isn’t designed for children.

How do I delete everything?

Open Your data and choose Delete everything. Clearing this site’s data in your browser, or uninstalling the app, removes it too.
